The opening track, The Grip Of The Family, A Cinch has been premiered by
Noisey.
The vinyl version will include a mesmeric 8 page booklet of drawings by long-time band artistic collaborator,
Johannes Høie, who has also done the cover of the minialbum.
Lyrically the I Modi EP embraces everything from Roman parades with idols of Phalli to modern day smut. Kjetil Nernes (songwriter, guitar and vocals) says of the inspiration for this release :"I've been interested in classical erotic arts for some time, when I came across the I Modi. I was fascinated by the drawings and also the history behind it. Our version is much more hallucinatory, but likewise dealing with the body and bodily lust. The idea of old time religion repressions only added to the inspiration while writing the album."
In a cosmic dose of irony, this carnal work was recorded in an abandoned nineteenth century Chapel located in the Swedish countryside. Musical contributors on the release include members of
Okkultokrati and
Haust as well as electronica chameleon
Karin Park. Studio production is handled by
Milton von Krogh (Pirate Love) and long -time Årabrot collaborator,
Stian Skagen (concept.virus).
Shortly after the recording of the album this past summer, Kjetil was diagnosed with cancer. An experience he describes as akin to real hell and not the mundane allegorical hell so common in rock music, but proper physical and psychological hell. Now as he says with one tumor down and 35 stitches over the neck up Årabrot are back. Kjetil will use Avant-noise comrades (and label-mates) MoE in his live line-up for a forthcoming European tour this October.
